Science

Science is an important core subject which touches the daily lives of our students. As such the subject is taught so that students can appreciate the link between the teaching and learning in the classroom and their own individual life experiences.

Students study a diverse range of topics such as chemical reactions, health, diet, energy resources, and acid rain and its effect on the environment. Students are encouraged to ask questions and put forward their ideas relating to these topics.

In Science we follow the National Curriculum. At KS4 we undertake GCSE in Environmental Land Based Science.

In February 2007 a new state of the art Science lab was built, complete with an ICT suite. This has given individuals the opportunity to develop their learning through a more thorough practical base.

Science at the William Henry Smith School is kept as practical based as possible, with students learning through doing and having the opportunity to explore and develop their own ideas through asking questions and making discoveries.
