Nurture Group
Nurture Groups commit to providing students with the intensive experiences that are necessary for healthy emotional and cognitive development. At the William Henry Smith School the Nurture Group operates for two lessons each day, focusing on the development of self-esteem, confidence, communication skills and co-operation through Circle Time, literacy, numeracy, art and craft, co-operative play and daily sharing of food. Our aim is to provide a secure and reliable small group setting where children can learn by re-experiencing some of the early developmental areas with two caring adults who actively work towards successful integration of the children into their classes full-time.
All students will spend some time in the Nurture Group on arrival at the William Henry Smith School. How long a student remains part of the Nurture Group is dictated by how quickly he makes progress in identified areas of weakness.
